Moved into a new address and settling down seems like eternity. The most challenging thing without a doubt. But again last few years i have been doing this with spending considerable amount of time out of India. However, It was great to celebrate Ganesh Festival in the new house with in a week of arrival. Festive season has just started and hope it would be great time both in Dussera and Diwali. Also time to get back to some serious music and painting now. Cheerio !!!

Independence Day Celebration @ Our Apartment

We celebrated the independence day at our apartment for the first time. This is a new apartment that came last year.

Few neighbours in block approached me for the preparation and planning. I took the lead and prepared the cultural programs involving kids. It is always fun and tiresome with kids as retaining their enthusiasm and attention is daunting. We did preparation two weeks in advance and put up a very good so to a very good receptive audience (more than 100).

Kids charmed all with their performance and innocence. I sang couple of patriotic songs to much adulation and applause. While all chidrens got some prizes, I too got a nice present of my taste. Thanks BSR Splendour Park for the wonderful evening and participation.

In all this, I missed by hubby as He was away in training.

Some photos of celebration.

Cheers,
Sangita

First Deserve Then Desire

First Deserve, Then Desire

Srila Prabhupada had no material desire; he had total spiritual desire. He used to say, “first deserve, then desire.” He deserves Krishna and therefore he has Krishna. When one has Krishna he has everything. We should just hurry up and follow his instructions on how to go back to Godhead that is Krishna’s abode and relish his association.

In order to get almost any earthly thing on your own, we must first deserve it before it is healthy to desire it. We deserve something - in the only sense that ultimately satisfies - only when we work for it. At that point it is healthier to desire it. Better to be unattached to the things of this world until they are manifest, lest they confuse the ultimate objective “to act and behave in such a way that we are worthy of our heartfelt desires”.
This quotation is particularly applicable with regard to the apparent secret to happiness: love. Most earthly love is conditional; we must deserve it in some way before receiving it. If we put yourself in a position to deserve it, you are more likely to receive it, so desiring it becomes rational, rather than wishful thinking.

This is the most important of all rules if we want our desires to manifest.  You have to ask yourself, "Do I really deserve what I am asking for?"  Have I done my part?  This will help us not fall prey of wrong and evil desire. In this way we will always be on righteous path and attain our ultimate goal. This rule will be validated repeatedly by our life.  We should Pour ourselves into something we are passionate about, devote ourselves to it and give all we got, the results will follow on their own.  We will hardly even have to desire the results; they will simply start to flow.

Qualification is a pre-requisite, and then implementation follows naturally. As Srila Prabhupada says, “if you have the qualification, you don't need to spend so much time arguing with people about how they should follow you, you just spend your time actually leading them”. So a lot of our time might be better spent focusing on our own qualification than railing at people for not following. It's a poor workman who blames his tools and a poor leader who blames his "followers."

In the battle field of Kurukhetra, Arjun decided not to raise weapons against his relatives. But Krishna advised him to fight as being a kshyatriya it was his only duty. Following Krisna’s order Arjun conducted his duty religiously and he got the reward by not only winning the battle and Kingdom, but                                       also got the title of “Best Warrior’ of his time. So we can learn from this if one does his work dedicatedly and be in righteous path, God will help to fulfill his desires.

Hence it is concluded that we should cultivate our capabilities of deserving something and will bound to receive the fruit of it. Like what we sow is what we reap other than living in fantasy.

PS – Complied this as a part of Creative Writing competition, held @ IKSCON, Bangalore

Calligraphy - Vatsalya ISKCON

Calligraphy is an interesing art. I almost landed in the competition without any preparation. I tried my best and applied all that I could recall to produce calligraphy as per the para sheets given to us. Here you go.

Vatsalya - Pencil Shading

I happened to participate in ISKCON's culture competition for women called 'Vatsalya'. It lasts for 4 days and has been conducted since last 6 years.
There are half dozen programs conducted every day and many female aged above 20 enthusiastically descen to be a part of it. This is what I created. Vatsalya theme photo was a inspiration to draw it. Here it is.

Cheers,
Sangita
